----------------------------------------------------------------------- ** I. - VERISON HISTORY - ** -----------------------------------------------------------------------
0.1 - Initial release of this guide.
----------------------------------------------------------------------- ** 2. – THE CHARACTERS - ** -----------------------------------------------------------------------
There are a total of -- characters within the entire game.
Unpromoted characters will have branched promotions. Depending on their style of growth and how they turn out, some units are better in different carnations than others. It also depends highly on your team setup, so try to take everything into account when deciding how to promote your units within this game.
----------------------------------------------------------------------- ** I. – PLAYABLE CHARACTERS - ** -----------------------------------------------------------------------
Princess Eirika – The beautiful princess of Renais. She is both elegant and kind.
Base Stats: Lv. 1 Lord HP: 16 Pow: 4 Skill: 8 Speed: 9 Luck: 5 Def: 3 Res: 1
Stat Growth: HP: B Str: B Skill: A Speed: A Luck: A Def: D Res: D
Stat Expectations: HP: 47 Pow: 21 Skill: 29* Speed: 30* Luck: 27 Def: 17 Res: 17
Promotion(s): Great Lord
Analysis:
Eirika is one of the two main lords of the game. She starts off rather weak, which is different when comparing her to her brother who starts off very powerful. Despite her low base statistics and level, she can quickly gain to be a powerful fighter—she can easily have problems in both HP & STR, though, which can effect her overall performance rather badly.
Her strong all-around growths will enable her to be a very strong asset near the end of the game, after she promotes. The Great Lord class offers excellent caps for her, where she shouldn’t have a very hard time reaching a high level of SKL & SPD, as well as strong LUK. You can depend on her having good chances in battle, but be wary of her STR, HP & DEF early on.
(8.4/10)
General Seth – A commanding general of Renais. He is calm, cool and collected.
Base Stats: Lv. 1 Paladin HP: 30 Pow: 14 Skill: 13 Speed: 12 Luck: 13 Def: 11 Res: 8
Stat Growth: HP: A Str: B Skill: B Speed: B Luck: D Def: C Res: D
Stat Expectations: Lv. 20 Paladin HP: 47 Pow: 23 Skill: 22 Speed: 21 Luck: 18 Def: 19 Res: 14
Promotion(s): Great Lord
Analysis:
Seth starts out as a promoted character in the earliest stage of the game. Due to this, he starts off with rather low base statistics; though his overall growth is very strong, it does not do him very good justice.
Seth is very useful for rescuing units, acting as a strong meatshield, and weakening units early on so that you can have an easier time in the beginning. If you continue to level Seth up, he can stand rather well as a fighter, but he may end up falling behind your other characters once they are promoted due to the fact that they will have an easier time having strong statistics as a lower level, as compared to Seth who truly becomes powerful in late stages of his growth.
There’s one thing about Seth—you can count on him from the very start, and you can count on him all the way to the very end. His statistics completely revolve around this principle.
(7.9/10)
Franz, Knight of Renais – An ambitious knight under the service of Renais.
Base Stats: Lv. 1 Cavalier HP: 20 Str: 7 Skill: 5 Speed: 7 Luck: 2 Def: 6 Res: 1
Stat Growth: HP: B Str: C Skill: C Speed: B Luck: C Def: D Res: D
Stat Expectations: Lv. 20 Paladin HP: 52 Pow: 23 Skill: 21 Speed: 24 Luck: 17 Def: 18 Res: 10
Lv. 20 Great Knight HP: 53 Pow: 24 Skill: 21 Speed: 24 Luck: 17 Def: 18 Res: 10
Promotion(s): Paladin Great Knight
Analysis:
Not a very spectacular character. While his personality shows nothing but love of having to improve, his overall growths are only average in every direction with his base stats being significantly average. This means that he won’t end up as anything special, but you can depend on him not to really do too bad or too good in any single area.
As a Great Knight, he’ll be open to the weapon triangle and will have his battle usability increased by a little bit. I believe this is the best choice scenario for him, since it provides the stronger strengths & statistic bonuses that can help him out with his average overall ability.
(7.4/10 – Paladin) (7.6/10 – Great Knight)
Sir Gilliam – A knight of Frelia who is often silent, but very strong.
Base Stats: Lv. 4 Knight HP: 25 Str: 9 Skill: 6 Speed: 3 Luck: 3 Def: 9 Res: 3
Stat Growth: HP: A Str: B Skill: C Speed: D Luck: C Def: A Res: D
Stat Expectations: Lv. 20 General HP: 60* Pow: 26 Skill: 20 Speed: 17 Luck: 14 Def: 29 Res: 13
Lv. 20 Great Knight HP: 59 Pow: 26 Skill: 19 Speed: 16 Luck: 14 Def: 28 Res: 11
Promotions: General Great Knight
Analysis:
Gilliam is an excellent wall. With his very powerful growth in defense, you can expect him to quickly become invincible to most physical attacks if you bother to level him up. While he isn’t very skilled nor very fast, he can perform best at what he needs to do—act as an armour knight.
As a General, Gilliam can take full advantage of the weapon triangle and also have the Big Shield skill available to him. Going the General route also offers very strong stat boosts in every direction, which helps Gilliam out overall. Unless you really prefer the extra movement of the Great Knight, the General is the way to go.
(8.1/10 – General) (7.7/10 – Great Knight)
Vanessa – A Pegasus knight of Frelia.
Base Stats: Lv. 1 Pegasus Knight HP: 17 Str: 5 Skill: 7 Speed: 11 Luck: 4 Def: 6 Res: 5
Stat Growth: HP: D Str: C Skill: A Speed: A Luck: A Def: D Res: D
Stat Expectations: Lv. 20 FalcoKnight HP: 41 Pow: 20 Skill: 25
Speed: 28* Luck: 25 Def: 16 Res: 18
Lv. 20 Wyvernknight HP: 39 Pow: 20 Skill: 27 Speed: 29* Luck: 25 Def: 15 Res: 17
Promotions: FalcoKnight Wyvernknight
Analysis:
Meh. Average. Vanessa has very high growth in SPD, and you can expect her to max that out very quickly… However, the rest of her stats aren’t really too excellent. Even with her very powerful SPD, she won’t be able to wield powerful lances too readily with her low CON; which ends up working against her low STR. You can expect her to dodge attacks easily when rescuing others, but since her LUK isn’t too incredible, don’t expect her to avoid everything.
Wyvernknight would be the best choice for Vanessa, since she gains a higher SPD cap(And this would be her strongest stat, by far.) as well as the pierce skill, and a strong CON boost. The extra weapon of the Falcoknight doesn’t really compare to the advantages of a Wyvernknight, so it would be only too folly to head Vanessa in that direction.
(7.2 – Falcoknight) (7.8 – Wyvernknight)
Moulder – A cleric of Frelia.
Base Stats: Lv. 3 Priest HP: 20 Pow: 4 Skill: 6 Speed: 9 Luck: 1 Def: 2 Res: 5
Stat Growth: HP: B Pow: B Skill: B Speed: B Luck: D Def: D Res: D
Stat Expectations: Lv. 20 Bishop HP: 48 Pow: 20 Skill: 24 Speed: 23 Luck: 8 Def: 14 Res: 16
Lv. 20 Sage HP: 49 Pow: 19 Skill: 24 Speed: 23 Luck: 8 Def: 14 Res: 17
Promotions: Bishop Sage
Analysis:
Moulder is a rather strange type… Unlike what you would probably expect from a Priestly figure, Moulder does not excel in RES. His best statistic would have to be his outstanding HP for his class, which still doesn’t go very high(60% growth.) You can’t expect him to be a real magic tank due to his rather low overall resistance, his defense is not very powerful, and there isn’t much to say for the rest of his statistics…
Moulder is nothing special.
As a Bishop, he’ll be able to gain an extra advantage against monsters. This is rather helpful, especially near the end of the game, and would be the best choice for him. If you’re only planning to use him for a short while(…), then you may as well take the full advantages of a Sage, which offers both Anima & Light magic. He’s nothing special either way, so the choice isn’t too hard to make.
(7.1/10 – Bishop) (7.0/10 – Sage)
Garcia – A retired war hero of Renais.
Base Stats: Lv. 4 Fighter HP: 28 Pow: 4 Skill: 7 Speed: 7 Luck: 3 Def: 5 Res: 1
Stat Growth: HP: A Pow: A Skill: B Speed: D Luck: B Def: D Res: E
Stat Expectations: Lv. 20 Warrior HP: 59 Pow: 30* Skill: 23 Speed: 14 Luck: 17 Def: 18 Res: 9
Lv. 20 Hero HP: 59 Pow: 25* Skill: 23 Speed: 16 Luck: 17 Def: 16 Res: 8
Promotions: Warrior Hero
Analysis:
Garcia is your man of strength throughout the game. Boasting incredible HP & STR, you can expect this guy to deal heavy damage and be prepared to take some back in return. His SKL is pretty average, and his SPD is absolutely miserable; nor is there much to say about his LUK or RES. But this guy can serve great against most lance-wielders, and his stamina can be helpful in situations where a lot of hits may be taken.
Warrior is the best choice for Garcia. Don’t even consider Hero unless you seriously need the extra boost in SPD, because if Garcia goes the Hero route; he’ll end up only capping STR out at 25. Because STR is his best statistic, the Warrior route will offer a full 30 STR cap, plus Garcia will be able to use bows; which is a very good asset because he won’t be weighed down with his excellent CON.
(7.6/10 – Warrior) (7.3/10 – Hero)
Ross – The son of the warrior, Garcia.
Base Stats: Lv. 1 Journeyman HP: 15 Pow: 5 Skill: 2 Speed: 3 Luck: 8 Def: 3 Res: 0
Stat Growth: HP: B Pow: B Skill: C Speed: C Luck: B Def: D Res: D
Stat Expectations: Lv. 20 Fighter -> Warrior HP: 53 Pow: 29 Skill: 21 Speed: 17 Luck: 27 Def: 18 Res: 13
Lv. 20 Fighter -> Hero HP: 54 Pow: 25* Skill: 21 Speed: 19
Luck: 27 Def: 17 Res: 12
Lv. 20 Pirate -> Berserker HP: 54 Pow: 29 Skill: 19 Speed: 19 Luck: 27 Def: 18 Res: 11
Lv. 20 Pirate -> Warrior HP: 53 Pow: 29 Skill: 20 Speed: 18 Luck: 27 Def: 19 Res: 12
Lv. 20 Journeyman -> Hero HP: 54 Pow: 25* Skill: 22 Speed: 19 Luck: 27 Def: 19 Res: 13
Lv. 20 Journeyman -> Journeyman HP: 54 Pow: 26* Skill: 22 Speed: 19 Luck: 27 Def: 19 Res: 13
Promotions: Fighter -> Warrior & Hero Pirate -> Berserker & Warrior Journeyman -> Journeyman(Must beat game once to unlock feature.) & Hero
Analysis:
Ross starts out very weak, but has many levels to gain. Even though he has many levels, his low overall growth rates won’t allow him to end up going very far in the directions of SKL, SPD & RES. Ross has rather average STR & DEF for his class, but his LUK is absolutely outstanding.
Because Ross has rather low base statistics, it’s very easy for him to turn out horrible. The extra levels merit for nothing if his low overall growths don’t permit him to get very far, so it can be rough for Ross sometimes. However, if he can maximize statistic gains with his many levels, you can count on having a very efficient fighter.
The best choice for Ross would be a Warrior or Berserker. Don’t consider the Hero class, because it doesn’t offer a very high STR cap(Which is one of Ross’ stronger points.) and the 15% CRT boost of a Berserker can easily make up for having an extra weapon.
(6.8/10 – Hero) (7.2/10 – Warrior) (7.15/10 – Berserker)
Artur – A traveling Monk who seeks to defeat the hordes of evil that have appeared on Magival.
Base Stats: Lv. 2 Monk HP: 19 Pow: 6 Skill: 6 Speed: 8 Luck: 2 Def: 2 Res: 6
Stat Growth: HP: C Pow: B Skill: B Speed: B Luck: D Def: E Res: A
Stat Expectations: Lv. 20 Bishop HP: 42 Pow: 24 Skill: 25 Speed: 22 Luck: 11 Def: 11 Res: 28
Lv. 20 Sage HP: 43 Pow: 25 Skill: 25 Speed: 23 Luck: 11 Def: 11 Res: 25*
Promotions: Sage Bishop
Analysis:
Not a bad character. Artur starts out with decent base statistics, so it isn’t hard to keep him on foot with all of your other characters. His growths end up slanting in certain directions, but you can expect him to do pretty well in every area(Considering his class specialty, that is.) except for LUK & DEF. Very powerful magic tank and a good asset.
The best choice for Artur would be Bishop because he can maximize on the high RES cap. He also gains the ability to have effective damage against monsters, which end up playing into the majority near the end of the game… So why not have extra power for the most difficult part of the game? Plus, this adds into more usefulness within the ruins. If you truly need anima magic, then a Sage wouldn’t be a horrible idea.
(7.8/10 – Bishop) (7.6/10 – Sage)
Lute – A young mage who believes herself to be a prodigy.
Base Stats: Lv. 1 Mage HP: 17 Pow: 6 Skill: 6 Speed: 7 Luck: 8 Def: 3 Res: 5
Stat Growth: HP: D Pow: A Skill: C Speed: B Luck: B Def: D Res: B
Stat Expectations: Lv. 20 Sage HP: 37 Pow: 30* Skill: 18 Speed: 24 Luck: 25 Def: 12 Res: 23
Stat Expectations: Lv. 20 Mage Knight HP: 37 Pow: 25* Skill: 18 Speed: 23 Luck: 25 Def: 11 Res: 22
Promotions: Sage Mage Knight
Analysis:
Lute is one of the strongest characters in the entire game; and the funny part about it all? She truly believes to be a prodigy, which is something that can’t be doubted from her performance. Lute starts out with very nice base statistics, and her growths permit her to do very well in every direction; though she will suffer in DEF & HP, and have average SKL, she will maximize elsewhere. Very efficient avoid, and very good at dealing damage.
Sage is the best choice for Lute. She’ll gain the use of light magic which is very accurate, incase her SKL may turn out sour. She’ll also be able to maximize her higher statistic caps so that she can gain a better advantage in MGC, SPD & RES in the long run. Mage Knight is only needed if you wish to have a more mobile unit.
(8.4/10 – Sage) (8.1/10 – Mage Knight)
Natasha – A cleric of Grado.
Base Stats: Lv. 1 Cleric HP: 18 Pow: 2 Skill: 4 Speed: 8 Luck: 6 Def: 2 Res: 6
Stat Growth: HP: C Pow: A Skill: D Speed: B Luck: A Def: D Res: A
Stat Expectations: Lv. 20 Bishop HP: 40 Pow: 24 Skill: 16 Speed: 24 Luck: 28 Def: 10 Res: 28
Lv. 20 Valkyria HP: 40 Pow: 25* Skill: 15 Speed: 23 Luck: 28 Def: 10 Res: 28*
Promotions: Bishop Valkyria
Analysis:
Not too bad. Natasha is completely focused on having very powerful MGC, LUK & RES. She’s average elsewhere, so she ends up being a sort of a very good magic tank. Her main problem rests with how she’ll gain levels slowly due to having to heal to gain experience, but that can be solved easily if you focus on leveling her.
Bishop is my preferred class for her, simply because of the effective strength against monsters and the higher overall caps. Valkyria can be useful if mobility is needed.
(7.6/10 – Bishop) (7.5/10 – Valkyria)
Joshua – A traveling myrmidion, has a love for gambling.
Base Stats: Lv. 5 Myrmidion HP: 24 Pow: 8 Skill: 13 Speed: 14 Luck: 7 Def: 5 Res: 2
Stat Growth: HP: A Pow: C Skill: A Speed: A
Luck: C Def: D Res: D
Stat Expectations: Lv. 20 Sword Master HP: 56 Pow: 22 Skill: 29* Speed: 29 Luck: 17 Def: 14 Res: 10
Lv. 20 Assassin HP: 54 Pow: 19 Skill: 29 Speed: 29 Luck: 17 Def: 14 Res: 11
Promotions: Assassin Sword Master
Analysis:
Joshua starts with pretty good base statistics, and good constitution considering his class. You can expect him to be doing pretty well overall, and his growths permit him to have excellent SKL & SPD, good HP, average STR, average DEF, average LUK and below-average RES.
If promoted to a Sword Master, Joshua will gain a 15% CRIT bonus. Very useful for dealing critical strikes, which can be efficient when paired with his decent STR & incredible SKL, plus a weapon with good critical. An Assassin would not be preferred due to a rather low STR cap, and the stat boosts are minimal. Invincible against axe users, and should fare well against any type of enemy even if they hold an advantage against him.
Beware of Sword Slayer advantage.
(7.7/10 – Sword Master) (7.3/10 – Assassin)
Ephraim – The prince of Renais, a strong-hearted and powerful man.
Base Stats: Lv. 4 Lord HP: 23 Pow: 8 Skill: 9 Speed: 11 Luck: 8 Def: 7 Res: 2
Stat Growth: HP: A Pow: A Skill: A
Speed: B Luck: B Def: C Res: D
Stat Expectations: Lv. 20 Great Lord HP: 55 Pow: 27* Skill: 26* Speed: 24* Luck: 25 Def: 21 Res: 16
Promotion: Great Lord
Analysis:
The most powerful character in the entire game! Ephraim has the strongest overall chance of always being strong throughout every point in the game. Starting off with strong base stats heading in every direction for his level combined with good overall growths, you can expect Ephraim to be a very powerful contender.
He’s locked to lances for both his Lord & Great Lord class, so you can’t expect him to be efficient with the weapon triangle. However, extra weapons are hardly needed due to how powerful his statistics will turn out, and the overall fact that lances are the best weapons out of the three.
(9.2/10)
Forde – A knight riding by the side of Prince Ephraim.
Base Stats: Lv. 5 Cavalier HP: 24 Pow: 7 Skill: 8 Speed: 8 Luck: 7 Def: 8 Res: 2
Stat Growth: HP: A Pow: B Skill: B Speed: B Luck: C Def: D Res: D
Stat Expectations: Lv. 20 Paladin HP: 55 Pow: 21 Skill: 25 Speed: 23 Luck: 19 Def: 17 Res: 12
Lv. 20 Great Knight HP: 56 Pow: 23 Skill: 24* Speed: 23 Luck: 19 Def: 17 Res: 12
Promotions: Paladin Great Knight
Analysis:
Average. Forde doesn’t excel in any single direction, and he simply starts out with being average in every statistic, disregarding his RES(Which is low.). His growths permit him to continue this style and he has a hard time truly excelling at anything.
Paladin would be the best choice for Forde, so that his better qualities can be spread apart, and that he would gain a good advantage in being able to rescue other units while maintaining strong movement.
(7.5/10 – Paladin) (7.5/10 – Great Knight)
Kyle – A knight riding by Prince Ephraim.
Base Stats: Lv. 6 Cavalier HP: 25 Pow: 9 Skill: 6 Speed: 7 Luck: 6 Def: 9 Res: 1
Stat Growth: HP: A Pow: A Skill: B Speed: B Luck: D Def: D Res: D
Stat Expectations: Lv. 20 Paladin HP: 55 Pow: 25* Skill: 20 Speed: 21 Luck: 13 Def: 19 Res: 9
Lv. 20 Great Knight HP: 56 Pow: 27 Skill: 20 Speed: 22 Luck: 13 Def: 19 Res: 9
Promotions: Paladin Great Knight
Analysis: Pretty average too. Kyle excels in being more defensive, and a better wielder of heavy weapons with his superior CON in comparison to Forde. Forde is ultimately better in the long run most of the time, though Kyle can be a bit more useful for taking hits in the beginning of the game.
Great Knight is good for Kyle, since he needs to make more strength out of his weaker statistics(Such as SPD, HP.) He isn’t really fit for being a rescuer. He also maximizes in STR, which may as well be taken to its fullest advantage.
(7.4/10 – Paladin) (7.5/10 – Great Knight)
Orson – A veteran retainer of Renais. His devotion for his wife is undying.
Base Stats: Lv. 3 Paladin HP: 34 Pow: 15 Skill: 13 Speed: 11 Luck: 4 Def: 13 Res: 7
Stat Growth: HP: B Pow: A Skill: B Speed: B Luck: D Def: B Res: D
Stat Expectations:
Lv. 20 Paladin HP: 48 Pow: 24 Skill: 21 Speed: 18 Luck: 8 Def: 21 Res: 12
Promotions: None
Analysis: Orson doesn’t end up too bad. However, you’re only free to use him for a single chapter(5G) due to storyline purposes… So it would be best not to put too much work into leveling him from when you’re able to use him.
(5/10; only liable for 5G – Paladin)
